Stadium Update
Emirates Western Force supporters have a lot to celebrate after the announcement of an $83million first stage upgrade to ME Bank Stadium in the recent WA State Budget.
Construction is expected to begin in 2012 which will see a permanent grandstand built on the eastern side to replace the current temporary facilities, taking the stadium capacity up to 25,000 spectators.
RugbyWA Chief Executive Officer Vern Reid has welcomed the commitment from the West Australian State Government in developing what will become a world class rectangular venue.
“This is an ideal site for a redeveloped stadium. The Town of Vincent has been very helpful in making sure we’ve been welcome here. It’s fantastic news for us,” Mr Reid said.
“I think collectively the rectangular sporting codes, the Town of Vincent and the State Government are going to turn this into one of the iconic places for sport in Western Australia.”
Once an agreement has been reached between the State Government and the Town of Vincent on the future ownership of the facility, planning will commence on the first stages of development.
Further improvements to the stadium which are being considered include enhancements to spectator amenities, new corporate facilities and change room upgrades.
